Big Trouble in Little Updates

Time for a new update. My semester is over and these past few weeks of my History of Film class have been all new movies from list, which is perfect for the blog. Add in a few others and we have a lot of updates for the list. :)

Let's get to the quick reviews:

2001: A Space Odyssey - Really slow and quiet for a majority of the movie with an interesting middle act (everything in space), but the last section of the movie is just way too strange and kind of ruins the good vibe I had leading up to it. 7/10

American Beauty - Has a really good story with humorous elements that gets a little awkward at times, but pulls it back enough to be a great movie the whole way through. 9/10

Big Trouble in Little China - I was about as confused about what was going on as Kurt Russel's character was all through out the movie, but it was funny enough to be forgivable for a first viewing. Definitely seems like the type of movie that gets better after each viewing, but for now it gets an 8/10.

The Godfather - An enjoyable movie that moves a little too slowly at times and the time skips, though not specified, provide for a strange pacing to the movie. It's good, but I wasn't drawn in enough to be anticipating watching the sequels. 7/10

Yojimbo - Provides a great mix of humor and action that pulls it together really well. The story's a little cliche'd and predictable at this point in time, but it doesn't hurt it at all. Great music, too. 9/10

I was thinking about adding some more current movie talk so that this blog isn't just relegated to occasional posting and I can talk more about what movies I'm looking forward to, what I've seen, and let you in more on what my taste in movies is like. Let me know if that's something you'd like to see.
